Walking and Cycling

We have to start with the Camel Trail! It’s only a mile from us and provides a wonderful off-road track for cyclists and walkers. It runs from the edge of the Moor all the way to the Atlantic at Padstow, following the River Camel as it passes through amazing wooded valleys until reaching the widening estuary with its breathtaking views of Padstow and Rock. The entire trail is a haven for wildlife and a must for those who like bird watching! Walkers are also spoilt for choice. As well as the Camel Trail and mile after mile of coast paths, there are numerous footpaths and other trails both for serious walkers as well as those who prefer the many ‘Pub walks’.

Our favourite walks include Golitha Falls, where the Fowey River gives a stunning display as it cascades off the moor, Respryn, where you walk along the edge of the tree lined, fast flowing but shallow river as it threads its way past Lanhydrock and the excellent creek side (and Pub!) walk from Lerryn to St Winnow where the music of the curlew leads you to the calm and peace of the wonderful church!. But on a fine evening, there’s nothing to beat the stretch of coast path from Polzeath, closely hugging the cliffs and then crossing the wide, golden sands of Daymer Bay to just sip a beer or glass of wine gazing over the estuary at Rock or catch the ferry over to Padstow to wander around the tempting shops!

If you’re feeling more energetic then Cardinham Woods – only three miles from us is also well worth visiting for its excellent walking and mountain-bike trails.

If horse-riding, fishing or golf are more your scene – don’t worry as these are all available within 15 minutes drive!
